For better or worse the Mercedes-Benz W108 should be on your short list of good classic sedans to own and drive. Most W108s are somewhere between minty clean museum pieces and mouse eaten monsters, but seldom are they modified by the stance crowd.
Get out your pitchforks because this W108 is slammed on airbags and lower than the Fisker stock options. Find this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for sale in Folsom, CA for $12,200 via craigslist. Tip from Brian P.
It would be so easy to take the high road and say something like "this isn't DT's cup of tea, but someone will like it...." Nope. None of that crap today. Today, we draw a line in the sand and decide if this is awesome or if the builder should be singing the Folsom Prison Blues.
The easiest place to start is with the stance . Dropped to the bottom via remote controlled air bags the car looks just ridiculous...but...you can put it at a conventional ride height (like the pic above) and never drop it to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! levels. Time won't be dragging on when stuck in this prison...it will be the muffler.
The other thing this ad tells us is that the seller is an expert in
photography...not that this says much about his car, but folks who take
the time and effort to appreciate and take nice photos should be capable
of taking care of a piece of vintage machinery.
Yikes! The rear wheel looks in pain....and the conclusion
is...thumbs-up. With the press of a button you can piss off the purists
or pickup your in-laws from the airport without looking like a
douchebag. See another oddball stanced whip?

I try to takw the high road, I really do, but with this I can't. I don't even particularly like these cars, it's just the principle of it. Who ever did this deserves to get hit straight in the nuts with the car. Wheels don't fucking go that way!

I say, why not make it drop to that height with the bags *without* making it also tilt in the rear wheels like a 'tard. Anybody?

Its bagged, so I'd daily drive it in a hot minute. Btw I love your avatar, Party.

At least it's got original (or original-looking) wheels and tires and not some ridiculous deep dish rims with stretched tires.

I don't see anything wrong with it, its not like this was a particularly fast car to start with, so its not like you're ruining anything. Drive around normally with it up, arrive at a show, drop it down and when its time to leave raise it right back up. No worries.

If it weren't for the ridiculous camber, I'd say that's a pretty good looking car

That picture up there that I have I feel is a kind of lowered W108. I actually think that when they aren't lowered to a underbody grinding kind of way, they actually look amazingly classy.

My old boss loved old mercs the same way $kay loves GTs. If he saw this, he would die. But not before finding out who did this so they could die first.
In fact...Yeah. He needs to see this. Sent!

I like the ride height, but the stance can fuck right off.

No pitchforks even from this MB traditionalist who doesn't love the stance movement. A 250S is an unloved base model car anyway, nobody would really be running to restore or preserve it, so have fun with it - beats having it rot away unused.
The air suspended models don't look much different when their suspensions fail (and they always do), which is amusing.

1- Buy
2-Set springs on "regular driving height"
3-Enjoy a nicely restored classic.

I prefer if when I drive down the road people dont think my car is broken. Also, doing something JUST to piss other people off isnt "pushing the envelope" its being a douche.

My old lowered w108...should never have sold it.

Y'know, if it wasn't for the outrageous camber, I'd love it.

I'm a fan of classic Mercedes-Benzes, especially W108s, and this actually makes sense. Generally, I hate extreme camber on stanced cars, but the 250S was never designed to be a sports car, and the fact that this car uses air suspension means that you can raise the stance to your own levels of liking. This example even has hubcaps with the Mercedes-Benz logo in the style of the original color-matched hubcaps, which is I believe is one of the only two wheel styles that really work well on W108s, the other being the Fuchs alloy introduced in 1969.

I like it. I'd scrap the air bags and put in regular/slightly lowered springs. Nice car for $12k

Your comment doesn't make sense, you like the stance of the car (how it sits/how low it is) but you don't like the stance?

That poor car. I guess if it's on a really good AccuAir system it could still be driveable, but I would hate to guess how often he's replacing parts.
